The ten most famous self-made pharmacist-prepared medicines of Tong Ren Tang, such as An Gong Niu Huang Wan, Su He Xiang Wan, Zai Zao Wan, An Shen Zan Yu Wan and Zi Xue San, are all precious ones that can save the patients who are critically ill and that are famous for their marvelous efficacy.

In the reign of Emperor Qianlong (A.D.1736-A.D.1795), Liu Li Chang became the collecting and distributing center of curio, calligraphy and painting, ancient rubbing from stone inscription and the four treasures of the study. After the foundation of the People’s Republic of China, it has been more like a cultural street. Rong Bao Zhai, China Book Store and other cultural relic shops successively set up salesroom there.
In 1982, Liu Li Chang cultural street was repaired and rebuilt. After that, the 750-meter newly-built street, east from Yan Shou Si Jie, west to Nan Bei Liu Xiang and passing Nan Xin Hua Jie, is more like an ancient street with green brick and grey tile and an air of great antiquity.

Rong Bao Zhai was set up in 1672. The former of Rong Bai Zhai was “Song Zhu Zhai”. In the 20th year of Emperor Guangxu, it changed its name into “Rong Bao Zhai” and invited famous calligraphist Lu Runyang to write the name. Rong Bao Zhai is famous for its watercolor block printing at home and abroad. In 1933, Rong Bai Zhai successfully integrate different technologies of carve printing, printing and folding and cutting so as to produce more perfect arts. It was praised by Lu Xun and Zheng Zhenzhuo as the best of the carving workshops in Liu Li Chang. Under the guidance of Lu Xun, Rong Bao Zhai re-carved “Shi Zhu Zhai Guidebook” by Hu Ricong, a famous artist in inscriptions on ancient bronzes and stone tablets at the end of Ming Dynasty. It was so exquisite and excellent that Lu Xun praised it would not be re-carved at the same level in the future. Rong Bao Zhai is good at reproducing the famous works of art. For example, even Qi Baishi himself had great difficulty in recognizing the original one from the reproduced one. The famous works of art reproduced by Rong Bao Zhai, namely, Ye Yan Tu, Zan Hua Shi Nv Tu, Qing Ming Shang He Tu, have been exhibited successively in over 20 countries and gained very high reputation.

Yi De Ge is first set up in the fourth year of reign of Emperor Tongzhi (A.D.1865) and has a history of over 140 years. The prepared Chinese ink of Yi De Ge is made of lampblack and pine-soot. During the early days after liberation, Yi De Ge developed reasonable directions for producing Chinese ink using abundant-pigment natural carbon black mixed with muskiness, borneol and creosote. The ink so made not only appears jet black, but also is antiseptic and of strong fragrance. Li Kuchan, a famous artist, once wrote: “the ink of Yi De Ge is of suitable concentration and good for painting and calligraphy.” Yi De Ge again developed the famous products such as “Chinese Ink”.

In the end of 1940s, “Cui Wen Ge” Lettering Shop appeared in the East Liu Li Chang. The owner of the Lettering Shop was Mr.Wei Changqing, a famous calligraphist. He was good at making, imprinting and lettering characters named “Wu Chang Shuo Ti” and better at making “Ba Bao Inkpad”. “Ba Bao Inkpad” is made of high-grade silver bead that is smashed and screened with a bamboo basket, mixed with the powder of pearl and carnelian. “Ba Bao Inkpad” appears cardinal red and 亮丽. It is so named because the inkpad consists of several valuable materials. Since the proportion of oil and other materials is determined after several experiments, the painting and calligraphy using such inkpad is coloury and unfading.
Maliandao Tea Street
When you drive a car going west along the famous Guang’an Street, passing the Crossroads of Guang’anmen and then turning left, you will see Maliandao Tea Street, the most famous tea street in Beijing.
